One of my all time favourite sweets would have to be the classic honey and oat slice. My grandma used to make the best one I have ever had! Goes perfect with a cup of tea YUM! Unfortunately the amount of sugar in the classic recipe isn’t so great for us, so I decided to make a healthier alternative by tweaking a few ingredients from the original recipe.
I always try to find a healthier option when it comes to sweets. As I am such a sweet tooth, being able to recreate a naughty guilty pleasure into a less guilty pleasure is amazing and super easy too! Here is my take on The “Honey Oat Slice.”
Berry Oat Crumble
1 Cup Oats
½ Cup Coconut Flour
½ Cup Desiccated Coconut
125g Butter melted
2 Tablespoons of Agave Syrup
½ Cup of Organic Fresh berries (raspberries, blueberries and strawberries)
A sprinkle of Cacao Nibs for garnish
1. Preheat over to 180 degrees C. Line an 18 x 28cm slice pan with baking paper.
2. Combine the dry ingredients in a large bowl. Add berries, butter, and agave syrup, mixing until combined.
3. Press mixture firmly into the prepared pan using your hands.
4. Bake for 10-15 minutes until oats begin to turn golden. It will be soft when you take it out of the oven so let it cool completely before slicing.
Serve with your favourite tea and enjoy!
*You will notice your slice will be quite crumbly and fall appart. This is because of the coconut flour. Store it in a container in the fridge to keep it firm.
