It was a gloomy, cloudy Sunday morning in Auckland when Elise, Jaimee and I were up bright and early to adventure to a little place called Whananaki (Fon-an-aki), a beach town about three and a half hours North of Aukland. The drive was beautiful, surrounded by countryside and hills that roll on for miles.
As the clouds began to disappear, we arrived at our destination. Nestled away on top of a hill was Jaimee's beach shack. We got to the bottom of the steep driveway and had no idea what to expect. When we got to the top after having to give Jaimee's little VW Polo a bit of a rev to get up the driveway, Elise and I were totally blown away. It was like nothing we had seen before! Crystal clear Blue Ocean for as far as you could see on one side and beautiful mountains the other. It was at that moment I knew I had found my new favourite place on earth.
After taking in the beautiful view, we unpacked the car and went straight down to what seemed like our very own beach! The warmth from the sun and cool breeze made lying on the sand incredibly revitalizing. I could have stayed there forever.
The next morning we decided to cook a feast for beaky and it was absolutely delish! And to top it off we ate it outside on the deck overlooking the incredible view that I never got sick of!
We spent the next few days relaxing in the sun and enjoying every second we had at this amazing place.
I now truly believe that heaven really is a place on earth....
On our way back to Auckland we stopped into a town called Matakana and indulged in Blueberry frozen yoghurt from a little cafe called Oob. I don't usually like frozen yoghurt but this was honestly the best thing I have ever tasted. It was so creamy and had chunks of blueberries all through it! YUM! The best part was that it was totally organic so we didn't feel too naughty after eating it!
After spending a few days out of the city we drove back to Auckland to continue our New Zealand Adventure!
